Bioquell and COVID-19
Learn more about Bioquell and Ecolabs response, our solutions, the latest news, and key information about the COVID-19 pandemic.
All decontamination technologies are not created equal, let alone all hydrogen peroxide based technologies. While the wording may sound similar, major differences between aerosolized hydrogen peroxide (aHP) and Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor exist. Sifting through the jargon and understanding the differences can reduce HAIs and save lives.
According to a study in Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (ICHE), a single Bioquell system was more effective and faster than 2 aerosolized hydrogen peroxide units. The aerosolized units failed to deactivate 50% of the biological indicators over a series of tests, while Bioquell achieved a 100% success rate.
Bioquell’s Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor technology only uses a 35% hydrogen peroxide solution with no other active ingredients. Various aerosolized options will attempt to account for a lower hydrogen peroxide level, ranging from one to twenty percent, with additives such as peracetic/acetic acid, silver nitrate and orthophosphoric acid being distributed in your patient rooms.
Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor will encompass every exposed surface in an enclosed area, providing consistent efficacy throughout. The unique properties of the vaporized process allow for this to occur even on complex shapes or tough to reach areas. Users of aerosolized hydrogen peroxide will discover inconsistent results, larger visible droplets and areas minimally impacted by the process.
Bioquell Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor leaves no residue on your equipment or spaces, eliminating any concern or inconvenience. Even the most sensitive of electronics have shown no ill-effects. Many facilities will bring in more equipment from other areas when possible. Contact us for a materials compatibility study provided.
Safety is our primary objective, for your patients and for the operators of the decontamination equipment. Each system for a hospital comes with a handheld sensor to easily assess leaks, vent sealers, emergency aeration and extensive training. Always ask about safety features such as these for any decontamination system you are reviewing.
If a system disperses a decontamination solution, how is that same solution being removed? With Bioquell, the answer is simple. Aeration units automatically turn on at the proper time to actively remove the Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor from the air and will inform you when this is complete. Carbon filters rapidly turn Hydrogen Peroxide Vapor into water vapor and oxygen. How do other systems account for this important step? How do they check the concentration left in the air before re-entry and re-occupation?
Because the Bioquell process is completely automated and includes aeration, each step operates swiftly without losing its pronounced efficacy. The system never needs to be repositioned to account for shadowed areas or to compensate for poor distribution. Bioquell is proven faster than aerosolized systems while offering far greater efficacy.
